The Scottish baskethilt is about as common an icon as any out there. They are not strictly Scottish, however; many common designs thought to be Scottish are in fact English. This one could be either. This style is seen as early as the beginning of the 1700's. It is shown in the hammered finish, but looks quite nice in a traditional black patina.
